With rampant corruption, unemployment, and abuse in the historic 19th century French Revolution, a convicted criminal going by the name of Jean Valjean escapes his parole after nineteen years imprisoned. Through a fortunate, albeit lucky, series of events, Valjean is free to start his life anew and creates a new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, in due time achieving a life as a factory owner and a mayor. Though previously fortunate in evading the law and his nemesis Javert, Valjean is inevitably drawn in the ongoing bloody rebellion of France, wherein Jean Valjean is forced to find solutions that would change the lives of the people around him forever.
